HAZLE TWP. – State police at Hazleton said a 47-year-old man from Philadelphia was killed early Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle.
The driver sped away but was captured later in the morning, police said.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family, police said.
Police said they found the driver, Jerome Robert Justofin Sr., 44, at his residence in Zion Grove, Schuylkill County.
Justofin showed signs of intoxication when he was found and was taken to Hazleton General Hospital for a blood-alcohol test, police said.
Police said the Philadelphia man was walking near state Route 924 and Chestnut Hill Drive when he was struck by a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck sometime between 1 and 1:30 a.m.
Charges against Justofin are pending further investigation, police said.
