Harold ‘Hal’ Whittaker

Harold “Hal” Whittaker, 73, of Oakland Township, Mich., passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.

He was born on March 9, 1935, in Nanticoke, as the eighth child of James and Susie (Pope) Whittaker.

Hal spent over 35 years of his career as the Executive Assistant to Heinz C. Prechter, the deceased CEO of ASC/Prechter Holdings in Southgate, Mich.

Hal was a true people person, greatly respected by his co-workers and by everyone he encountered. A deeply religious man, he was a longtime member of the Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Detroit, Mich., where he served as a warm greeter for many years.

His friends at the Modetz Funeral Home thoroughly enjoyed working with Hal over the last five years and will miss his smile and humor.

He is survived by sister-in-law Veronica Whittaker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Modetz Funeral Home, 100 E. Silverbell Rd., Orion, Mich. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 11 a.m., with an instate at 10 a.m. at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 8000 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich.

Entombment will follow at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, Mich. Memorials are encouraged to be given to Leader Dogs for the Blind, Heinz C.
