Jeanne Griffith

Jeanne M. (Ward) Griffith, 82, formally of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009, at the home of her daughter Cheryl in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Jeanne was born in Wilkes-Barre, and lived in Wilkes-Barre before moving to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1997. Jeanne was 1994 graduate of Misericordia University at the age of 68. She was a past secretary and member of the Wilkes-Barre Democratic Club.

She was a published author with her poem “Under the Harvest Moon” in the American Collegiate Poets Fall edition of 1977. She was a lover of the arts, music and poetry and had a gift of dance. Her love of education and the arts was passed down to her beloved children.

She will be loved and missed dearly forever.

She was preceded by her husband, Louis, in 1992; a daughter, Elizabeth (Betty), in 1959; and grandson David, in 1989.

Jeanne is survived by her devoted children, five daughters, Lynn Jacobs and her husband, Paul, of Mountain Top; Karen Reidy and her husband, Thomas, of Bayville, N.J.; Cheryl Edwards and her husband, William (Bill), of Walnut Creek, Calif.; Louise Fiduccia and her husband, Richard, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; Gail Baker-Berger and her husband, Thomas, of Rocklin, Calif.; three sons, William (Billy) Griffith and his wife, Elvia, of Phoenix, Ariz.; John Griffith and his wife, Sharren, of Peoria, Ariz.; and David Griffith, of Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Elizabeth Findora and Dorothy Ludden, of Kingston, Pa.; and her eight cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Christopher, Paul, Aaron, Matthew, Brittany, Lauren and Megan; a great-granddaughter, Emma; and her nephew, Michael.

Funeral services Friday at 9 a.m. from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S Main St, Plains, Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception, S. Washington St, Wilkes-Barre. Internment in St Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Relative and friends may call Thursday, 3 to 6 p.m.
