Mrs. Barbara Ann Oravic, 60, a resident of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, in the Inpatient Unit, Hospice Care of the VNA, Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Oravic was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Oscar and Lola Smith Compton. She was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1966. She had been employed by the Social Security Administration and by Wilshor Restaurant, both in Wilkes-Barre.
She had also been an Avon representative for many years. Prior to her retirement due to her health, she had been a coordinator for the Wyoming Valley Area Presbyterian Ministry, Memorial Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She and her husband, Donald P. Oravic, observed their 33rd wedding anniversary last year.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Marie Oravic; sister, Shirley Meyers; and brothers, Carl, Eugene, Robert and Ronald Compton.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her daughter, Nichole M. Oravic; and granddaughter, Kathleen Cavanaugh, both of Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Lola Johnson and Ruth Janick, both of Wilkes-Barre; Margaret Laubaugh, Mountain Top; brothers, Louis Compton, Mechanicsburg; Donald and Joseph Compton, both of Wilkes-Barre, and Albert Compton, Exeter; brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Don P. Hartshorne, pastor, Welsh Bethel Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call on Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN 38101.
