Kicking off summer with a ‘Jam’

It’s not very often you come across a multi-artist event where the ticket price range begins in the single digits. Thanks to 97 BHT along with concert promoter Stan Levinstone Presents, music fans will be able to catch six notable acts on Saturday, June 6 with ticket prices starting at $9.71.

This year’s “Summer Jam 2009” will feature pop sensations The Veronicas as the headliners. It couldn’t be better timing to capture the sisters as their success continues to rise. The twins from Australia are doing cameos and performing everywhere from “90210” episodes to your hometown, as they’re about to embark on an international tour starting here in the states and finishing in Tokyo at the goliath Summer Sonic festival.

Also on the “Summer Jam” list are 3 Doors Down tour buddies Safetysuit. The straight-forward rock quartet from Nashville is currently one of VH1’s “You Oughta Know” artists. Its sound falls somewhere between U2 and Matchbox 20.

With the great acoustics of the F.M. Kirby Center and a lineup with a good mix a different genres, “Summer Jam 2009” should be a night to remember for those in attendance.

“My goal was to put on an all-ages show that is affordable. You can’t get that much under 10 bucks these days,” says A.J., 97 BHT program director and on-air personality.

The teen star singer/ “Gossip Girl” actress Taylor Momsen will be doing her thing with Californian band The Pretty Reckless. The surprisingly aggressive sound of her new band should be interesting mixed in with a line up of pop stars. With Momsen’s potty mouth, The Pretty Reckless makes The Veronicas material seem G-rated. You may have to cover the kids’ ears at times.

Ohio rockers Lovesick Radio are the only artists on the bill that aren’t signed on to major label, which isn’t a bad thing. “I really think these guys are going to be something; I’ve always been in support of their stuff since the first time I saw them,” says A.J.

After two years of non-stop touring and signing to Alert Records, Lovesick Radio has a new single on the air and is ready to bring its exciting live show to the Wilkes-Barre area.

“We’re very excited because we’re all huge fans of Safetysuit. That guitar player really rips,” says David Harris of Lovesick Radio.

“I can’t wait to see The Veronicas either, and I’m not just saying that because they’re hot. We look forward to hitting on them and getting shut down,” confesses Harris.

Another feature of the event is DJ Woogie. Everybody hates the awkward in between time of sets at concerts with lengthy set changes. Luckily, DJ Woogie will spin tracks during the downtime to keep fans excited and entertained for the next artists.

He’s no filler DJ, either. DJ Woogie, originally from Scranton, has worked with some giant artists such as Lil’ Wayne and is rightfully earned the nickname “Scranton’s Kid.”

“We’re lucky to have him in the lineup,” says A.J.

Other acts include a slew of uprising artists like Lesley Roy (Jive Records), who is known for her cover of U2’s “Where The Streets Have No Name.”

The ladies of Jada will also be melting hearts at “Summer Jam.” The Universal Motown labelmates of Safetysuit have just released the new single “American Cowboy,” while Akon is currently producing Jada’s full-length record.

“Summer Jam 2009,” The Veronicas, Safetysuit, Jada, Lesley Roy, Lovesick Radio, Pretty Reckless, DJ Woogie. Saturday, June 6, 7 p.m., F.M. Kirby Center (71 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre). Tickets: $9.71, $19.71, $29.71, at box office,
