SISTER MARY APOLLINARIA, 91, of the Bernardine Sisters, Third Order of St. Francis, died of natural causes Thursday, May 28, 2009. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Frances (Szczurek) Wojcik. She entered the Bernardine Order on Sept. 8, 1932, at the age of 14, and was serving her 76th year of religious life. She first served at St. Stanislaus Orphanage, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., then worked as a cook with Sr. M. Ludgarde in the Mount Pocono Retreat House. Sister Apollinaria is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews, totaling over 100.
Burial was at the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Cemetery, Mount Alvernia, Reading, Pa.
