Chester L. Bator, 77, of Edwardsville, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 30, 2009, at his home.
He was born in Edwardsville, a son of the late Frank and Ann Bator. He was a Korean War veteran. He was employed as a superintendent/ foreman by General Motors for more than 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Black Diamond Post No. 395, Kingston, and also St. Ignatius Church, Kingston.
Chester was an avid car nut and “Mr. Fixit man,” and he also enjoyed collecting coins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, the former Rita Ann Mangold, on September 29, 2009; and sisters, Anna, Pauline and Frances.
He is survived by his son, Chester Bator, South Abington Township; daughters, Jo Anna Shovlin and her husband, Gary, Harrisburg; Donna Simerson, Bear Creek, and Kathleen Meehan, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Stephen Chiewj, Jason Bator, Zachary Bator, Rita Lynn Riggs, Michelle Meehan, Tom and Brian Simerson; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Rylee and Paul Riggs, Matthew Simerson; brothers, Edward Bator, East Brunswick, N.J., and Leo Bator, Edwardsville.
A private memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church for immediate family and friends. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given to St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple Avenue, Kingston, PA 18704.
