Slovak Heritage Society remembers Murgas

The Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania gathered recently at a commemorative ceremony for the 80th anniversary of the death of Slovak scientist, inventor and artist the Rev. Jozef Murgas. A wreath laying ceremony, co-sponsored by the State Scientific Library, Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, was conducted in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Dallas. A litany was offered by the Rev. David Betts, parochial vicar of the Catholic community of North Wilkes-Barre. Igor Pokojny, consul general of the Slovak Republic in New York, spoke of Murgas’ contributions as a radio pioneer and to Slovak immigrants. From left, in front: Philip R.
