Catherine “Katie” Hood, 65, of Franklin Street, West Pittston, passed away Monday, January 3, 2011, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Pittston, on October 5, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Worthie and Jeanette Pahl Hood.
She was educated in West Pittston schools and was a former member of the Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, West Pittston.
In her early years, she was deli manager at McCrory’s Department Store, Wyoming. She was also employed at the Fort Café, Forty Fort, and was currently employed by Uni-Mart, Wyoming.
During the Bloomsburg Fair, she worked for Yount’s Bingo and Glass Pitch.
She served as judge of elections for the 3rd ward, West Pittston.
Katie also enjoyed playing bingo, crafts, and spending time with her great-nephew, J.J. Hood.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Hood; sister, Jean K. Hood; and niece, Jennifer Hood.
Katie is survived by niece Deanne Carmean and husband, Clay; nephew John Hood and his wife, Vicki, and great-nephew, J.J. Hood; sister-in-law, Louise Hood; and aunt Marylyn Pahl.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Rev. David Brague will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Mountain View Burial Park, Harding.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Bruno and his staff, Care Givers of America and Ascera Care, Scranton, for the loving care they gave Katie during her illness.
The family also requested that flowers be omitted.
