Charles S. Volpe, of Pittston, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at ManorCare, Kingston, surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 25, 1920, in Pittston, he was a son of the late Salvatrice (Sorci) Volpe and Angelo Volpe.
He was the husband of Mary (Gajewski) Volpe.
Charles graduated from Pittston High School and was employed as a coal miner at No. 6 Colliery and, later, a laborer at General Dynamics for 20 years.
He was an active member, past president and treasurer of the Montedoro Society, in Pittston, for many years, and a member of St. Rocco’s R.C. Church.
He was preceded in death by brother Joseph Volpe and sisters, Josephine Volpe and Rose Costanzo.
Surviving are his son, Angelo, and wife Mary Volpe, Tampa Fla.; daughters, Charlene and husband Garrick Barge, Pittston, and Mary Ann and husband Robert Buckley, West Pittston; grandchildren, Kimberly Kline, Quakertown, Pa.; Michele Tilyou, Gonzales, La.; Christine Buckley, Port Chester, Pa.; Lauren Przybyla, Pittston; Eric Volpe, Tampa, and Byron Bates, Tampa; great-grandchildren, Bella Renee Tilyou and Colson Bates; brother Russell Volpe; sister Angeline Carozza, Middlebury, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be handled by Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 700 Township Blvd., Pittston Township. Viewing hours will be held today from 3 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at St. Rocco’s R.C. Church, Pittston, at 9:30 a.m. (9 a.m. from funeral home), with the Rev. Paul McDonnell officiating. Interment will follow at St. Rocco’s Cemetery.
