Edward Poostay

Edward Poostay, 86, a former resident of Poplar Street, Plains Township, passed into Eternal Life Thursday evening, December 30, 2010, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following an illness.

Born Mary 26, 1924, in Plains Township, he was a son of the late Michael and Anna (Hlasick) Poostay.

He was educated in the Plains Township schools.

Edward proudly served our country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Until his retirement, he was employed for over 30 years by the United States Steel Co. as a foreman.

He was a member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre, and held membership in the Plains American Legion, Joseph F. Conlon Post No. 558.

Edward is remembered by family as having a love of bingo while residing at Heritage House. He also received much joy in watching his great-niece and nephew, Mike and Jenn, participating in their various sporting events.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Mrs. Margaret Witek and Mrs. Helen Fronczek, as well as brothers, John, Michael, Emery and Andrew Poostay.

Surviving are his nephew and niece, Stanley and Cindy Witek, Plains Township, their children, Michael and Jennifer Witek, who, with their parents, served as Edward’s primary caregivers. Additional nieces and nephews include Dolores and Joseph Sperazza, Pittsburgh, Pa.; David and Joe Fronczek, Harding; Pat Derrick, Lakehurst, N.J.; Pat and Al Fondo, Shavertown; and Charlotte Gerchak, Swoyersville; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services with Panachida will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday from the John V. Morris Funeral Home, 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church with the Very Rev. James G. Hayer, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share remembrances of Edward at his visitation Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the family lot of the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Heritage House, especially Dr. Patrick J. Kerrigan, D.O., for their untiring love and support to our uncle during his stay.
