Joan Cominsky

Joan Cominsky, 63, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, on October 12, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Helen Walters Schneider and had attended Wilkes-Barre schools.

Prior to her retirement, Joan had been employed for over 20 years as a certified nurse’s assistant at the Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Joan served many years as an Avon representative, loved baking, bingo, the Wilkes-Barre Farmers Market and her dog, Rocky.

She was preceded in death by sister Barbara Deininger; an infant brother, Donald Schneider; and an infant grandson, Tyler Sonday.

Surviving are husband of 45 years, William Cominsky; daughters, Michele Zluchowski and husband Mark, of Laurel Run, and Ann Marie Sonday and husband Joseph, of Exeter Township; and son William, at home; grandchildren, Erica, Shane, Daria, Lara, Mark and Patrick; brothers, Bernard Schneider of Wilkes-Barre, Ronald Schneider of Wilkes-Barre, Mark Schneider of Wilkes-Barre, Gerald Schneider of Wilkes-Barre, James Schneider of Wilkes-Barre, Kevin Schneider of Harveys Lake, and Michael Schneider of Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Carol Wilkie, Michigan; Doris Arnold of Wilkes-Barre; Susan Schneider of Inkerman; and Mary Theresa Pedano of Wilkes-Barre; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Bednarski & Thomas Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Shavertown. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
