Mary Helen Bankus, 78, of Bradford Street, Wilkes-Barre, died in the comfort of her family on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Northwest Hospital, Randallstown, Md.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary “Hertely” Bankus. Mary was a lifetime resident of Wilkes-Barre, graduating from the E.L. Myers High School, class of 1950.
She was employed as an assistant branch manager for over 40 years for the Hanover Bank, which later evolved into the Citizen’s Bank, retiring in 1993.
Mary was a member of St. Leo’s/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed golfing.
She was preceded in death by brothers Stephen and Andrew Bankus, and infant brother Joseph Bankus.
Surviving are brothers Frank Bankus of Sykesville, Md., and John Bankus of Forty Fort; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Saturday from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. from St. Leo’s/Holy Rosary Church, Manhattan St., Ashley. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
