PGC details gas money plans

HARRISBURG — State wildlife officials said Tuesday they’ll use $11 million in gas lease money in its operating budget and use the remaining $7 million more to replace lost acreage.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission said most of the money gained from the leases involving state-owned game lands will help fund programs that had to be trimmed due to budget considerations.

Last month, the game commission approved lease agreements with gas drillers tapping the Marcellus Shale formation. Three agreements were for the rights to gas that can be tapped by wells on adjacent private property and one allows for the construction of three drilling pads on game lands in Tioga County.
