WP Rams organizing for 2011 on Thursday

The Board of the West Pittston Rams will conduct its first organizational meeting of 2011 on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room of the Moose Lodge in West Pittston.

Agenda items include introduction of 2011 officers, review of 2010 finances, 2011 by-law revisions, new cheerleader uniforms and associated fundraising plans.

Parents are reminded that if their player or cheerleader has not yet returned their equipment from the 2010 season, returns will be accepted at this meeting.

Also, a few A team football player that have not received their trophies or banquet program books. They can be obtained at the meeting.

ABL registering players

The Avoca Basketball League will register interested kindergarten through sixth grade boys and girls for the 2011 season in the Avoca Community Center on Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 7 to 8 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 9 from 7 to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 16 from 7 to8 p.m.

League play is scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 22 in eight playing divisions. The ABL is sponsored by the Boro of Avoca& the Avoca Jolly Boys, and is played in Honor of Michael Joyce.

PA football boosters meeting tomorrow

Pittston Area football banquet returns were due December 28. Anyone who did not receive an invitation, please contact Lisa at 655-2744.

The Booster Club will hold a meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. in the senior high cafeteria. Officers will be elected. Please try to attend.

WAFAA party set

The Wyoming Area Football Alumni Association will a party and meeting at Marianacci’s Restaurant in Wyoming on Friday at 7 p.m. All Wyoming Alumni and Friends of the Association are welcome. For more information call Lou Ciampi at 654-4040.

Duryea LL sets meeting

The Duryea Little League will hold it monthly meeting on Sunday, January 16 at 7 p.m. at the Duryea VFW.

‘Y’ WBL starting Jan. 16

The Greater Pittston YMCA Men’s Winter Basketball League begins January 16. Registration deadline is January 9. Stop by the Pittston YMCA to pick up a registration form for your team or call Joelle Sharisky, Program Director at 655-2255 ext. 104 for more information.

Duryea LL registering players

The Duryea Little League will hold 2011 registrations for their T-ball through Teeners teams including Girls Softball on January 24, 25, 26, and 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Duryea Borough Building.

Fees at the time of sign-ups are $50 per child, $60 per family and $60 for Teeners. Any questions, please call Ron at 655-0203.

WA Football Banquet set

The 2010 Wyoming Area Football Banquet will be held January 23 at 12:30 p.m. at The Woodlands.

Players, cheerleaders, parents, coaches, and friends of Wyoming Area Football are all invited to attend. Parents, coaches and guests should have already received invitations in the mail. If you have not received an invitation, please visit the Wyoming Area Football website at www.wyomingareafootball.org and download. RSVPs are due by January 15, 2011.

This year’s guest speaker will be former Wyoming Area nose guard and center, Matthew Carmody. Mr. Carmody also was an Al Ciampi Scholarship Award winner when he attended Wyoming Area in the late 1990’s.Mr. Carmody currently is an attorney for the law firm of Elliott Greenleaf, located in Wilkes-Barre.

WA conducting Elementary Field Hockey

The Wyoming Area Field hockey parents association and the Wyoming Area Field Hockey coaches will be conducting an Elementary field hockey program for all Wyoming Area girls in grades 1-6.

The program will be twice a week, one day for a practice and one day for a league. The cost per girls is $30. The practices locations will be determined at a later time and the leagues will be held at the Tenth Street Gym on Sundays after 4 p.m..

The practices will be possible on Tuesday or Thursday from 7-9 p.m. The practices will begin the week of January 10 and the leagues will start on January 16.

CPW Wrestling returns

CPW wrestling returns on Saturday, February 5, 2011 for our first show of the new year and it will be fan appreciation night. Tickets are only $5 for front row and $3 for general admission and all proceeds benefit St. Mary’s church. Cefalo Center open to community

The Pittston Area School District will be opening the Cefalo Alumni Athletic Center to residents of the Pittston Area School District. The center will be open to all Pittston Area residents on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. from December to March. Use of the facility is free and a copy of your ID will be made for proof of residence in the district. Any questions, please contact Chuck Montagna at the Pittston Area Middle School 655-2928.

WA Adult Rec open

Wyoming Area Adult Recreation Program is up and running. Aerobics and swimming will be held on Monday and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the high school.

Basketball will be at the Tenth Street Elementary on Monday and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Activity cost is $2 per session. Any questions, call 655-2836 extension 2093.
