Patriots take command of Bridge race

PA won swimming, wrestling events this week

Pittston Area is threatening to run away with The Bridge Award for the 2010-2011 season on the heels of two victories this past week in girls’ swimming and wrestling.

The two victories increase the Patriots lead in the standings to 10-5 with four events remaining on the Winter schedule.

Pittston Area has won owned The Bridge for the past three years.

The Lady Patriot swimmers defended the pool at Pittston Area High School with its first victory over the Lady Warriors in three seasons as Samantha Scialpi won three events to lead PA to a 107-77 win. Wyoming Area has previously dominated in the pool, winning eight of nine from Pittston Area, but the Lady Patriots have more depth this season.

On the mat, the Patriots won all but two events as it dominated Wyoming Area in a 67-6 victory across the river in Exeter. Pittston Area recorded eight pins in the victory. Andy Schutz and Nick Heck were the only WA wrestlers to earn victories.

Wyoming Area could get back in the race before Spring Sports begin, but the Warriors will be decided underdogs in three of the four remaining events this Winter.
