It’s that time of year already. Time to prepare for the Dispatch’s annual Super Bowl Sunday edition where we publish readers’ Super Bowl predictions. Last year we published 705 predictions, 368 for the Indianapolis Colts and 337 for the New Orleans Saints.
We’d like to surpass 705 this year, perhaps hit 1,000, and we need your help.
After today’s games we’ll know which teams are headed to the Super Bowl in Dallas. So beginning early this week, start sending in those predictions. And don’t forget to add a short witty sentence about your prediction.
We prefer receiving predictions by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Please send your prediction to one email or the other, but not both. Round up family members and work or school friends and send in a bunch of predictions. Please don’t write in ALL CAPS.
We will not publish predictions with first names only or nicknames only. Please include last names. We need last names because there are prizes. Fans who predict the game exactly – right winner, right score – will be entered into a drawing. Two winners will be drawn for gift certificates of $25 each for Saints and Sinners and the River Street Ale House.
If no one picks the game exactly, the two picks judged to be the closest will win the gift certificates.
Try to group your predictions this way in your emails:
Joe Green 14-10 Jets break the sound barrier
Matt White 21-11 Rex Ryan is on his toes
Bill Black 23-10 Big Ben at it again
Gary Gold 24-14 Hines Ward refuses to lose
Same thing for the NFC, be it the Green Bay Packers or Chicago Bears.
While we prefer email, we will accept phone calls. Call Jack Smiles at 602-0178. If you miss him leave a message. Speak plainly and spell last names.
Forms will be available at some local watering holes.
If you fill out a form, please write legibly.
Should the Steelers win, just as we did in the past, the Dispatch invites Steelers fans to don their Black & Gold and gather for a photo. The picture will be taken in the lobby of Pittston Area High School at 1 p.m. next Sunday, Jan. 30. If you were there two years ago you know it turns into a big Steelers pep rally.
The photo will be taken only if the Steelers win. If they do, Packers or Bears fans are also welcome to show up for a photo. We’ll do our best to protect you.
If the Super Bowl teams turn out to be the Bears and the Jets, no offense but no group photo.
