Tom “Nitro” Simko -- the Pennsylvania State Director of International arm Wrestling Federation (IAF) – is bringing an IAF sanctioned championship tournament to Diane’s Deli at 206 South Main Street on Saturday, Feb. 12. Snow date: Sunday, Feb. 13
Simko has organized championships in conjunction with the Tomato Festival for years, this is his first time he’s bringing in a winter event locally, appropriately titled the Icebreaker Tournament.
Simko has been running practice and demonstration sessions on Saturday nights at Diane’s since January 9. He said the response has been positive and he has arm wrestling enthusiasts and novices coming to the sessions from as far away as Tioga County.
On Saturday, February 5 one more practice and demonstration session is scheduled before the tournament. Stop in and get some free pointers from Nitro, one of the best instructors in the state, and register for the tourney.
The entry fee for the double elimination tourney is $20. There are six divisions: Men right and left, Woman, and Masters and Men’s Novice right and left. The divisions are broken down into weight classes, except Masters which is open.
There are cash prizes for first place in all divisions based on the number of entries except for the novice division, which offers three-foot trophies down to fourth place.

The Weigh-In for the Icebreaker is Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wrestling starts at 3:30. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.
