Pittston Area snapped a six-game losing streak with a big 62-41 win over Coughlin on Senior Parents Night in the Thomas R. Kelly Gymnasium on Thursday night in Yatesville.
The Lady Patriots led from the start and built a 33-13 halftime lead behind the play of leading scorers Mia Hopkins and Grace O’Neill.
Hopkins led all scorers with 20 points and O’Neill chipped in with 17 as the Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Crusaders in every quarter.
Senior Shannon Gilhooley added seven points for PA, and Brooke Balchune and Kristen Fereck each chipped in with six.
Pittston Area trailed by only 11 entering the fourth quarter but Dallas exploded with a 19-4 run in the final stanza to post a 62-36 win over the Lady Patriots on Monday night in a Wyoming Valley Conference crossover game in the Thomas R. Kelly Gymnasium in Yatesville.
Dallas took a 16-9 lead after the first quarter but Pittston Area stayed within striking distance in the second and third quarters before the Lady Mounts fourth-quarter barrage.
Mia Hopkins led all scorers with 16 points and was the only PA player in double figures. Kristen Fereck added six points for the Lady Patriots, and Grace O’Neill chipped in with five.
Wyoming Area had another rough fourth quarter as it dropped a close 47-38 decision to WVC Division I second-half leader Hazleton Area on the road Thursday night.
The Lady Warriors trailed by just one at 14-13 at halftime, and by three entering the final quarter, but the Cougars scored 20 points in the final stanza to take victory.
Sara Radzwilka led Wyoming Area with a season-high 14 points. Becca Zielen added eight points for the Lady Warriors and Katie Scalzo chipped in with six.
Wyoming Area held an early lead but Valley West dominated the middle quarters as the Lady Warriors dropped a 48-35 decision to the Lady Spartans in a Wyoming Valley Conference crossover game on Monday night in Plymouth.
The Lady Warriors led 8-3 after the first eight minutes of action but Valley West ran off a 34-16 run during the second and third quarters to take command of the contest.
Katie Scalzo got back in double figures for WA, and led the Lady Warriors with 14 points.
Sara Radzwilka added 11 points for Wyoming Area.
Old Forge was outscored by 12 points in the middle quarters in a 48-44 loss to Valley View in Archbald on Friday night in Lackawanna League Division II action.
Lindsay Regan scored 15 points to lead the Blue Devils. Andi Alsalahat added 14 points and Nicole Marianelli chipped in with eight.
Old Forge used a strong second half to pull away from Western Wayne in a 64-44 win on the road Monday night in a Lackawanna League Division II game in the Varden Garden.
The Blue Devils outscored the Lady Wildcats, 31-19 in the second half, to pull away after an eight-point halftime advantage.
Nicole Marianelli led the way for Old Forge with 18 points. Junior Morgan Malia scored a career-high 15 points in the victory, and Andi Alsalahat and Lindsay Regan scored 13 points each for the Blue Devils.
