Students in Saint Mary’s Preschool Class, Pittston, recently celebrated ‘Read Across America’ day on March 2, when they were awarded with Certificates of Participation from the National Education Association. The students gained an appreciation of author and illustrator Theodore Seuss Geisel whose birthday is on this date. The students also enjoyed a week long Dr. Seuss thematic unit incorporating Reading, Math, Social Studies, Computers, Writing, Fine Motor Skills, and Art.

Our next school Mass will be on Thursday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. Fourth grade is preparing the mass and Fr. Maloney will be our celebrant. All parents and families are invited to join us.
Every Friday during Lent we will have the Stations of the Cross at 12:30 p.m. Please join us as we prepare for Easter.
Invitations to this year’s Sports Banquet were in last week’s family envelope. The Banquet will be held on Sunday, April 3 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Center on William Street. Arrival will begin at 1:45 and dinner will be served at 2:00. The cost is $16.00 per person. Coaches and 8th grade athletes are free. All returns were due no later than Friday, March 25.
The annual jump rope eliminations begin next week; eliminations will be held each Tuesday and Wednesday to correspond with gym day uniforms; Student Council reps will announce each week which class is up for elimination; the final round of the contest will be scheduled for early May; each class will be represented in the contest; two prizes will be awarded: one for first through fourth grades and one for fifth through eighth grades.
We are in need of parents to volunteer at the Junior Achievement Center on Oak Street, Pittston on Thursday, April 7 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. You will need to pretend to be shop owners. Our sixth grade will be attending at this time. If you can volunteer please contact the school.
Beginning Friday, April 1st the children may begin wearing their summer uniforms. However, please use your discretion when sending your children in shorts until it gets a little warmer.
Our annual Father/Daughter Dance will be held on Friday, April 1 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. in the school gym. The cost is $10.00 per person which will include light refreshments and music and entertainment by Charlie Hayes the DJ. Wear your Sunday Best, choose your special date for the evening (fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, godfathers, uncles, older brothers) and join us for some fun and dancing. Invitations were sent home on February 23 in the family envelope. Reservations were due March 18. If you have not sent in your reservation and would still like to do so; please send it in ASAP.
Mark your calendars for Monday, April 4. Shawn Klush will be visiting St. Mary’s Assumption School. If there are any children that would like to do an Elvis impersonation, Karaoke, or just dress like Elvis; pull out your Blue Suede Shoes and start getting ready. More information will be coming home next week with the time and additional details of the event.
