Patriots sweep Meyers to pick up first victory

Wyoming Area falls in only match of week

Pittston Area swept three matches from Meyers in a rain-shortened match played on Tuesday afternoon at the Martin L. Mattei Middle School Tennis Courts in Hughestown to notch its first win of the season.

Jeremy Homschek led the way with a win at No. 1 Singles as he defeated Chris McGavin, 6-4, 6-4.

Tyler Woodruff added a Singles win at No. 3 with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win, and the team of Suraj Pursnani and Justin Coe won at No. 1 Doubles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

The No. 2 Singles and No. 2 Doubles matches were halted due to the weather.

PA 0, Hazleton 5

Pittston Area was swept by league-leader Hazleton, 5-0, in a match at the Martin L. Mattei Middle School Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon in Hughestown.

All five matches were decided in straight sets with Trent Woodruff having the best showing in a 6-2, 6-3 loss to LJ Sidairy at No. 2 Singles.

WA 0, Crestwood 5

Wyoming Area lost its match with Crestwood on Thursday afternoon in Mountain Top, 5-0.

The Warriors managed to win just five games – three of which came from No. 1 Singles player Davide Fanelli in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Alec Machalick.
