Old Forge dominated action in its opening Lackawanna Soccer League Division 3 game of the season against Dunmore on Friday night. But the Blue Devils needed a spirited comeback to defeat the Bucks, 3-2, at V.J. Gatto Memorial Stadium in Dunmore.
The Blue Devils controlled possession for nearly 60 minutes of the action, and outshot the host Bucks, 28-8, only to see itself behind, 1-0, at intermission.
Old Forge got two quick goals from senior J Argonish on a penalty kick and on an assist from Phil Scavo to take a 2-1 lead.
Matt Mancuso then found the back of the net on a direct kick to push the Blue Devils margin to 3-1.
Dunmore added another goal right after Mancuso scored to get within a goal, but the Bucks could not catch Old Forge.
Corey Washington earned the victory in net in his first start in goal, stopping six shots.
Wyoming Area dropped its open match of the season, 8-2, to WVC Division 3 pre-season favorite Hanover last Friday at the Tenth Street Soccer Field in Wyoming.
The Hawks posted eight goals before the Warriors got on the board with two goals from Nate Brague.
Brague scored at the 78:48 mark on an assist from Sean O’Malley and then found the net again in the final minute of action, scoring on a pass from Michael Kohut at the 79:59 mark.
Aaron Carter made eight saves in net for Wyoming Area (0-1).
The Warriors outshot Hanover, 30-29.
